MAIA is participating in the 3rd Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) Europe Regional Conference in Tartu, Estonia from 7-10 June 2021. The theme of this year’s event is “Ecosystem Services Science, Policy and Practice in the face of Global Changes”. The conference is part of the bi-annual cycle of ESP regional conferences held around the world.
The three-day hybrid event is going to be divided in a number of thematic sessions, one of which will be led by MAIA partners, titled “From assessment to accounting: how countries experience the development of NCA. Insights from applications.” Natural Capital Accounts (NCA) are meant to complement the System of National Accounts (SNA), which represents the main source of information to assess the wealth of a country. To make NCA operational within and together with SNA, accounting mechanisms and rules have to be consistently applied. An evolution is foreseen from pure ecosystem and ecosystem services assessment to their structured accounting.
MAIA’s goal for the session is to present applications of Ecosystem Accounting core accounts (i.e. extend, condition, services, assets,) and thematic accounts (i.e. water, carbon or biodiversity). For this reason, the project is inviting everyone interested to submit their abstracts, offering a great opportunity to showcase the current account(s) applied in pithing the European countries. Additionally, this is being an occasion to share the technical experiences in compiling the NCA.
Keep in mind that the deadline for submitting the abstracts is 15 February 2021.
